This is the new entry on my count-down list: “Consciousness: Confessions of a Romantic Reductionist” by Christof Koch (ISBN: 9780262017497). It’s coming out on 13/4/2012. 60 days from now.

Koch’s last book I read (“The Quest for Consciousness: A Neurobiological Approach“) was a gem: crystal clear, dense, and valuable. But, like many gems, it was flawed. I think his search for NCCs is misguided. Nevertheless, I am convinced that of all the approaches I’ve seen, it’s Koch’s approach that will pan out in the long run.
